Humans First Praises President Trump for Considering Executive Action Requiring Vetting of Dangerous AI

Statement of Amy Kremer, Chair of Humans First

(Washington, DC) – This week, it was reported that President Donald J. Trump is considering an Executive Order to vet potentially dangerous frontier artificial intelligence (AI) models before they are released. In response, Amy Kremer, Chair of Humans First, released the following statement:

“Under President Trump’s leadership, the United States has led the world through strength and wisdom, not recklessness, and this proposed Executive Order would be a continuation of this. As a grassroots organization of committed conservatives, we urge President Trump to extend that principle to artificial intelligence and to take decisive action to ensure that the most powerful AI systems in the world are properly vetted before they can threaten our national security, our children, and the American way of life.

Artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly and now extends far beyond simple chatbots used for homework help or internet searches. Frontier AI systems are becoming increasingly powerful and could pose serious risks to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, financial systems, elections, biosecurity, and even our military and national defense capabilities if deployed recklessly or without proper safeguards.

America should lead the world in AI innovation. But America must also lead with strength, responsibility, and common sense, setting the rules that the rest of the world follows.

We already evaluate dangerous technologies in sectors that impact public safety and national security. New pharmaceuticals must be tested before they reach patients. Nuclear materials are strictly controlled. Aviation systems undergo rigorous certification. The most powerful AI systems, which can now, or soon will be able to, assist in designing bioweapons, breaking into critical infrastructure, or manipulating financial markets, should be treated with the same seriousness and care.

For these reasons, we strongly support policies that test, evaluate, and vet potentially dangerous frontier AI systems before they are deployed or released broadly. This is the sort of strong, principled, and pragmatic leadership that President Trump has shown throughout his presidency.

Now is the time for decisive action to ensure that innovation serves the American people, not the other way around.”
